Eligibility Requirements for Hawaii Game Warden

Age: Must be at least 21 years of age to begin Hawaii Fish and Game Warden training.

Citizenship: Evidence of U.S. Citizenship or naturalization records are needed, as is evidence of residency in Hawaii.

Permit: A legal Hawaii-issued driver’s license is required.

Military Service: If formerly with the United States Military, one must have left “Under Honorable States”.

Work Qualifications: Applicants should be eligible  to accept employment prior to applying.

Legal and foundation History: Prospective Hawaii Fish and Wildlife Officers will need to complete a fingerprint background check. Aspiring Hawaii Game Wardens should not posses any of the following:

  • Currently on court-ordered probation
  • Been previously convicted of a felony

Academic Certificate: For general entry level positions, applicants will need to have 2 years of general experience that demonstrates their ability to read difficult texts, and construct accurate reports, while applying what you read to the jobs responsibilities. Although those who have completed high levels of education will need less experience.

  • High school or comparable graduation (1 yr. GE)
  • One semester of college or 15 credits (6 mo. GE)
  • Two year degree (2 yr. GE)
  • Two years of university with an additional 24 hours of law enforcement coursework (2 yr. GE)
